MK Odeh Likely to Attend Geneva UN-Sponsored Int’l Conference

Hadash MK Ayman Odeh, head of the Joint List in the Knesset, is expected to attend a two-day UN-sponsored conference to be held next week in Geneva. Under the theme “Peace is possible — frameworks for a way forward” the United Nations International Conference in Support of Israeli-Palestinian Peace will take place on June 29 and 30 at the Offices of the United Nations in Geneva (UNOG).

From its venue at the Palais des Nations, the conference will bring together experienced peace negotiators, including participants from Israel and Palestine, international experts from the UN, civil society, and academics. Among those expected to attend are: Riad Malki, Foreign Minister of the State of Palestine; Ambassador Fodé Seck, Chairman of the UN Palestinian Rights Committee; Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva; Miroslav Jenča, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs; senior Palestinian peace negotiator Mohammed Shtayyeh; and Gadi Baltiansky Director of the Geneva Initiative-Israel.

The conference will focus on lessons to be learned from past initiatives related to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, assessing recent initiatives by key actors, and promoting a discussion of new ideas for a lasting solution to the conflict.
