Palestinians Take to the Streets to Protest Today’s Bahrain Workshop

Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip have been taking to the streets to protest the imperialist “Deal of the Century” and the Bahrain workshop, starting today, sponsored by the Trump administration, which they absolutely reject and view as a plot to annihilate the Palestinian cause.

Dozens of Palestinian activists held the first demonstration on Saturday, June 15, marching through he city center of Ramallah. Protesters held aloft Palestinian flags and placards condemning the US administration and the involvement of Arab countries — especially Bahrain — for hosting the workshop.

Palestinians marched through Ramallah on Saturday, June 15, to protest the US-sponsored economic workshop scheduled for today and tomorrow, June 25-26, in Bahrain as part of the Trump administration’s “Deal of the Century” plan for ending the conflict.

Scheduled for today and tomorrow, June 25-26, in Manama, capital of Bahrain, the event is billed as a gathering to boost the Palestinian economy. “Peace comes by ending the occupation, not by illusions of economic development,” one of the signs protesters held read.

Following the protest, Fatah, the Palestinian party of President Mahmoud Abbas, declared that major demonstrations will be taking place across the occupied Palestinian territories today and tomorrow, to coincide with the Bahrain workshop.

In a joint press statement released last week, Palestinian political parties stated that protests will be organized in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and in Palestinian refugee camps in the diaspora. “We refuse any solution that doesn’t consider fundamental Palestinian rights, including the right of return for refugees,” the parties noted in the statement.

Presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said last Tuesday, June 18, that the Palestinian national stand, the international consensus and the insistence on taking independent decision have once again thwarted all conspiracies against the Palestinian cause and have preserved Jerusalem, its holy places and its Palestinian identity.

Abu Rudeineh stressed in a press statement that “any meeting, whether in Bahrain or elsewhere, without the legitimate Palestinian endorsement, will only prove that Washington cannot and will not succeed on its own in achieving anything.”

The President’s spokesperson said, “The position of the President and the Palestinian leadership constitute the givens, particularly [regarding] Jerusalem, the prisoners and the Palestinian identity, [and] will foil any plot, workshop or meeting.” Abu Rudeineh continued, “The address is the President, his people and the correct political position that bases any settlement or any just peace on a national and international consensus… The choice of our people is clear and firm and will defeat any conspiracy.”
