Palestinian People’s Party: A call for solidarity with Gaza

On the 29th of November 2012, the international day of solidarity with the Palestinian people, we’ll have a vote in the United Nations for the enhancement of Palestine’s status, as a non-member state in the general assembly of the UN. Our people have been denied his national and human rights for almost a century.

Fifteen days before, and on November 14th 2012, a new Israeli aggression began on the Gaza strip. The timing of this aggression came on the verge of the Israeli elections scheduled for January.

What we are witnessing is a criminal attack against our besieged people in Gaza. It has nothing to do with security and a lot to do with denying our people their inalienable right to self-determination. Israeli attempts to stop our UN bid and its policies which deteriorate the situation on the ground, will not stop our people on their path towards national unity, liberation and the quest for a just, comprehensive  and lasting peace.

We have endured dispossession and forced exile since 1948. Around one million Palestinian were forcibly expelled from their homes in Palestine. Our presence in our Home Land has been under threat since then. The Israeli occupation in June, 1967 of all the Palestinian Lands brought more suffering and pain. Israel’s policies through all the past 45 years of occupation were based on expropriation of land, settlements, siege around Gaza and in the west bank, demolition of houses, military zones, check posts and a separation wall which chokes our land. Ending Israeli occupation is the only way for Palestinians, to enjoy a life of prosperity and progress. It is also the way to achieve our freedom and dignity.

We believe the Palestine Liberation Organization’s initiative to enhance Palestine’s status in the United Nations is a positive, collective, and important political step that will get us closer to freedom. This is a step in the right direction for the cause of a just and comprehensive peace based on the international legitimacy resolutions. We fully endorse this bid, just as we supported Palestine’s application for full membership of the United Nations a year ago. Our party had played an important role in instigating the UN initiative and calls upon all the communist and leftist parties to fully endorse it.

We call on you to support our struggle and efforts in launching a new political offensive that will pave the way towards real independence in a Palestinian sovereign state along the borders of June 4, 1967.We call on you to consolidate your positions, actions and struggle in the international arena to:

– Stop immediately the Israeli aggression and prevent a ground invasion against Gaza.

– Support the Palestinian statehood recognition bid in the UN.

Now, it is Palestine’s time. We are certain that your solidarity will assist us in exercising our legitimate goals so that our next step will be a celebration in a state we have and not a yearning for a reality we are unjustly denied.

If Israel does not end its occupation that began in 1967, continues to thwart the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestinian State and keep on in its aggression in Gaza and the west Bank, horrifying scenes such as those witnessed in Gaza will continue to be repeated.
