Missile Victim Michael Samara Saves Six Lives with Marathon Organ Donation

Mikhael Samara’s family’s decision to donate his organs saved six lives, including a seven-month-old baby, over Friday and Saturday.  He was critically injured on Tuesday, August 6, from an Israeli Iron Dome interception rocket that exploded over Highway 4. Samara had been studying in the Czech Republic and had arrived in Israel to visit his parents just days prior.

Samara was committed to the intensive care unit in crucial condition. The medical team examined him and discovered that he suffered from brain damage, and his family requested that his organs be donated to save lives. “My son saved six people,” said Nasrat Sammarah, Mikhael’s father to Times of Israel, as he prepared to greet people who were streaming into the community center of Kfar Yasif, in Western Galilee to support the family on Sunday. “How many people from the government came to offer their condolences? Zero. Representatives came from the Slovakian and Czech Republic embassies. But no one from our own government,” added. “I’m calling on the government to end this war,” Mikhael’s father said. “We paid the highest price.”

On Saturday evening amid police threats, Hadash and Communist Party of Israel leading members participated in an anti-war demonstration held at Kfar Yasif, after the burial of Mikhael Samara in the Christian cemetery.
