Protest in Haifa Against Police Decision to Close Club of the Communist Party

One hundred of Hadash and Communist Party of Israel (CPI) activists, among them MK Ayman Odeh and former MK Issam Makhoul, gathered on Monday evening, Aug 26, against the police decision to place a closing ban for the Communist Party club in Wadi Nisnas, as they were planning to screen this evening the film “Jenin, Jenin 2.”

Israel Police closed the Haifa offices of the Communist Party of Israel (CPI) on Monday, Zo Haderech reported. The police then summoned the secretary of the Haifa branch of Hadash, Rim Hazan, the International Affairs secretary of the CPI, for a hearing regarding the branch’s intention to hold a screening of the new film “Jenin, Jenin 2” by well-known artist Mohammad Bakri.

The film that CPI was hoping to screen is a sequel to the 2003 film “Jenin, Jenin,” on the occupation army in the West Bank city of Jenin during the Operation Defensive Shield deadly campaign at the height of the Second Intifada. In 2022, the Supreme Court issued a final ruling barring screenings of “Jenin, Jenin.”
