100 Killed in Israeli Massacre Targeting School in Gaza City; Anti-War Demonstration in Kfar Yasif

In a devastating early morning attack, over 100 civilians have been killed and dozens more injured following an Israeli airstrike on the At-Tabe’een School in the northern Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City. The school, which was housing displaced families, was hit Saturday morning, August 10, by Israeli warplanes while residents were performing the dawn prayers.

In addition, seven civilians were killed today in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a group of citizens east of Khan Yunis city, south of the Gaza Strip. Local sources reported that the occupation warplanes targeted a group of civilians in the Maan area east of Khan Yunis, resulting in the killing of at least seven civilians.

On Friday, at least 14 civilians, including two journalists, were killed and others were wounded today in Israeli airstrikes on the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Yunis. Medical sources reported that the bodies of 14 people were brought to the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, after Israeli bombings of various parts of the city. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, during ongoing Israeli war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, has so far resulted in 39,699 documented Palestinian fatalities, mostly women and children, in addition to 91,722 injuries. Thousands of victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to emergency and civil defense teams due to Israeli attacks.

In a press statement, Nabih Abu Rudeineh, the official spokesperson for President Mahmoud Abbas, held the U.S. administration responsible for the massacre due to its financial, military, and political support for Israel. Abu Rudeineh stated that “this attack is part of a pattern of daily atrocities committed by Israeli occupation forces in Gaza and the West Bank.” He accused Israel of “attempting to annihilate the Palestinian people through collective massacres and daily killings while international silence continues.”

The spokesman pointed out that at the same time the U.S. administration announced the release of $3.5 billion in military aid to Israel, an attack of this magnitude occurred, implicating the U.S. in the ongoing genocide. Abu Rudeineh called on the U.S. to press Israel to cease its aggression and adhere to international law, urging “an end to the blind support that leads to the killing of thousands of innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.”

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell expresses horror at a deadly strike by Israel on a school housing displaced people in Gaza.

“Horrified by images from a sheltering school in Gaza hit by an Israeli strike, with reportedly dozens of Palestinian victims. At least 10 schools were targeted in the last weeks. There’s no justification for these massacres,” Borrell writes on X.

Hadash and the Communist Party of Israel (CPI) strongly condemned the deadly Israeli massacre early this morning targeting the At-Tabe’een School, stressing that the continued attacks against civilians in the Strip are an unprecedented disregard for the provisions of international law and international humanitarian law. They called in a common statement for a unified and effective international position that provides protection for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and puts an end to the targeting of unarmed civilians and the deadly war.

Hadash and CPI also called the public to participate in an anti-war demonstration to be held this evening at Kfar Yasif, in the Western Galilee after the burial of Mikhael Samara in the Christian cemetery. Samara, a 28-year-old Arab-Palestinian citizen of Israel, died yesterday of his wounds, days after being severely wounded by an Israeli air defense interceptor rocket responding to a Hezbollah drone. Samara studied chemistry in the Czech Republic and lived there. He arrived in the country to visit his family a few days earlier and his father is a member of the Hadash chapter in Kfar Yasif.
