A New Pogrom by Israeli Settlers in the Palestinian Town of Umm Safa

Two houses and several vehicles were set on fire on Saturday in a new pogrom carried out by state-backed Israeli settler militias in the village of Umm Safa, to the north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. Scores of Israeli settlers, some of them armed with rifles and guarded by occupation army and Border Guards Police, stormed the village and fired indiscriminately at everything they came across, including homes and vehicles. The shooting attack also caused damage to an ambulance, and a paramedic was injured by a gunshot while moving a patient in urgent condition to a hospital.

Mohammad Radi, a Palestine TV cameraman, added that the settlers fired gunshots at him and his colleague, Falantina Abu Hamed, as they were covering the terrorist attack by fanatic Israeli settlers on the village. He said one gunshot directly hit and damaged their camera. Radi said his colleague, and he miraculously survived the shooting attack by settlers.

Attacks and acts of terrorism against Palestinians by Israeli settler militias have seen a terrible rise across the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, since last week with a green light from the far-right Israeli government. One Palestinian was killed last week and many others were injured in a savage attack by Israeli settlers on the town of Turmus Ayya, northeast of Ramallah.

Hadash-Ta’al lawmakers Ofer Cassif, and Ahmad Tibi arrived on Saturday to Turmus Ayya and see several torched homes, days after they was set on fire by Jewish settlers. “The Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves in front of those who come to burn their house and burn their wife and grandson,” Tibi said. Turmus Ayya residents told Cassif and Tibi they saw between 200 and 300 Israelis rampaging through their village on Wednesday, attacking residents and damaging dozens of houses and cars.

In addition, diplomats from more than 20 missions, including the European Union and the United States, visited Turmus Ayya on Friday where they condemned the attack during which one Palestinian was shot dead.
