Mass Anti-Government Protests to Go Ahead Despite Terror Attack

Organizers of a planned mass anti-government protests all over Israel on Saturday night said the demonstrations will go ahead as planned in the wake of several deadly terror attacks and violence. Several hundred thousand people have been holding huge protests against the government’s judicial overhaul plans every Saturday for the last 14 weeks, with demonstrations carrying on even after the far-right coalition paused the legislation “to allow dialogue.”

On Friday night, an Italian tourist, Alessandro Parini, a 35-year-old lawyer from Rome was killed in Tel-Aviv and tourists from Italy and the United Kingdom were wounded in a car-ramming attack at the seaside Charles Clore park drive by an 45-year-old Arab citizen from Kafr Qassem, Yousef Abu Jaber. Earlier on Friday, two sisters, British nationals’ residents at the Ofra settlement, were killed and their mother was critically hurt in a shooting attack in the occupied West Bank.

Hadash, the Communist Party of Israel and the People’s Committee in Kafr Qassem condemn the attack in Tel-Aviv. The People’s Committee said in a statement that members “strongly condemn the serious attack that took place tonight, send our condolences to the family of the person murdered, and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.” “We condemn any harm to innocent lives and call for tolerance from all sides. This is not the way of the residents of Kafr Qassem. The city was and remains a place for living together and pursuing peace,” the group said.

The surge in violence has come as tensions have spiked in recent days following provocative Israeli police brutally incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem and the murder of Mohammad Khaled Alasibi, a medical school graduate who was shot by occupation forces in Jerusalem’s Old City on past week.
