The Global Anti-Blockade Movement (NEMO) convened more than 100,000 members of different US organizations such as the Greater Hartford Cuba Solidarity Committee, the Connecticut Peace and Solidarity Coalition, the Greater New Haven Peace Council, Unidad Latina en Acción, Vecinos Unidos, Latin America Solidarity, Green Party of Connecticut and Veterans for Peace Connecticut.

The initiative began with the intervention of the Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, who exposed the lies and pretexts used by the United States to maintain and intensify its hostile extraterritorial policy to overthrow the Cuban Revolution. “Throughout history, Washington has used pretexts to turn Cuba into a failed state, with the purpose of bringing its people to their knees on the basis of scarcity, the lack of consumer products, depressing the standard of living and causing desperation and hunger to lead to the overthrow of the government,” quoted Prensa Latina (PL). He stressed that former US President Donald Trump decreed more than 240 unilateral measures during his term (2017-2021), dozens of them in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, to intensify the blockade and deepen its extraterritorial nature, with the activation in 2019 of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

From the Middle East, the deputy of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset), Ofer Cassif, a leading member of the Communist Party of Israel, participated in the 24-hour media marathon against the blockade, and expressed: “Just in these days, when bloodthirsty and capital-thirsty imperialism is once again wreaking havoc, the Cuban Revolution serves as a model for the popular struggle.”

Palestinian doctor Fawzy Saif, who studied in Cuba for seven years. He called on all the peoples of the world to join the cause against the US blockade. “This leads me to express my solidarity with that same beautiful island of Cuba, with its cause and its suffering due to the blockade imposed by the United States on its economy, preventing its development.”
