According to Al Ittihad communist daily newspaper, the Palestinian Peoples’ Party, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Palestinian National Initiative Party called on Abbas in a joint communique to withdraw from the peace talks with Israel and apply to the United Nations instead. “Accepting the plan of (U.S. Secretary of State John) Kerry to sign the framework peace deal is like committing a suicide, and this plan has many dangerous consequences on the Palestinian cause and our people’s legitimate rights,” the communique said. The four left-wing parties, of which two are members of Palestine Liberation Organization executive committee, said that they are planning to organize rallies and protests in the Palestinian territories to call for protecting the stable and unchangeable rights of the Palestinians.

Earlier on Saturday, Abbas flew from Jordan to the United States. He is scheduled to visit Washington and hold talks with President Obama to discuss the current situation and the results of the peace talks with Israel. The U.S.-mediated peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians were resumed in late July. Kerry gave the two sides a nine-month ultimatum to finalize their talks, overcome their differences and sign on a framework peace agreement that leads to a permanent peace agreement. The left-wing groups insisted that “the only way to achieve just peace in the region is an Israeli recognition of the Palestinians’ legitimate rights, an end of the military occupation of the Palestinian territories which began in 1967, and establishing the independent Palestinian state.”
