Hadash Faction of Histadrut Calls for Demonstration at Collapse Site

The Hadash faction of the Histadrut Labor Federation has called for a demonstration on Thursday, October 6, at 12:00 near the building site of the parking garage which collapsed in Ramat HaHail, Tel Aviv, on September 5, killing six and injuring 23 workers. The demonstration will be held to protest the plethora of construction accidents due to inadequate governmental supervision and for reparations for the accident victims and their families.

“This incident, though it’s wider in scale than any one construction incident in recent years, is not an exception,” said Suehil Diab, chairman of the Histadrut’s Hadash faction. Diab said that accidents and hazards are commonplace, and called it miraculous that other such incidents were not as common. “It was only a matter of time before a disaster of this magnitude would occur”, he said.

Joint List MK Ayman Odeh (Hadash), said in a television interview that the fatalities and injured came “from all parts of society,” both Jews and Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians. “Thirty-two people have died [in construction site accidents] since the beginning of the year. This demands the immediate convening of a state investigative committee. We’ll fight for this demand,”  Odeh vowed.
