May Day in Israel: Six demonstrations all over the country

 

The worker’s international solidarity and struggle day, May Day, this year in Israel crosses ethnical, religious and national boundaries and unites workers from all over the country around the red flag. Demonstration will be held next Friday, April 30, in Tel-Aviv, both in West and East Jerusalem (in Palestinian Sheikh Jarrah), Haifa, Beer-Sheva and Kufr Yassif (Western Galilee). On Saturday May 1, will be held by Hadash (the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality – Communist Party of Israel) the main demonstration in Nazareth. 

Alon-Lee Green, from the Central Committee of the Young Communists (Banki-Shabiba), who has helped organize the protest, told the press: “This May 1st we’ll march together, men and women, Arabs and Jews will march to stop the exploitative capitalist system, demand social justice and the end of the occupation”.

This May Day, Hadash-CPI has become the address for many workers who seek a way to struggle for better conditions and against class exploitation. This May Day reflects the communist wide-ranging and multifaceted work. In the different parades all over the country, will participated among others: the Social Workers Union, the Northern branch of the powerful Teacher’s Union, “Power to the Workers” – Democratic Labour Force, the Green Movement, Meretz party, the African Workers Union, Red-Rose Forum – Lesbians and Gays Hadash activists, Physicians for Human Rights, The Social-Democratic Committee, “Ahoti” – Women Caucus, Our Future current in the Social Workers Unions, the Union of Junior Lecturers at Tel-Aviv University, the Social & Economic College, Democratic Women Movement in Israel (TANDI), Ultras Hapoel, Tel-Aviv University Student’s Union, “Rent-Control” – Housing for All, Social Work Students for Social Change, The Institute for Democratic Education, Kav La’Oved – Workers Hotline, Women to Women – Feminist Center in Haifa, Cultural Guerrilla, Women in Black, the Young Green and Social Movement in Haifa,  Hashomer Hatzair Young Movement, Labour Party Young Guard in Jerusalem.

In Tel-Aviv will three parades from different corners of the city to Shuk Hacarmel and from King George Street towards Gan Meir, where a May Day assembly will be held, including: welcome address from workers, Knesset  Members Dov Khenin (Hadash) and Ilan Gilon (Meretz), and representatives from different unions, followed by performances from singer Danny Amir and others.
