Cyprus crisis: A letter from the Communist Party of Israel to AKEL

The Communist Party of Israel (CPI) sent last Tuesday a letter to the Progressive Party of the Working Peoples (AKEL) in Cyprus. Under the signature of Dr. Ofer Cassif, Head of the International Relations Committee of CPI, the Communist Party of Israel “salutes AKEL on its heroic struggle against the Troika’s illegitimate intervention in Cyprus and supports your objection to the collaboration of Mr. Anastasiades with those forces. It is well known that the intention of the EU, the IMF and the ECB has nothing to do with the wellbeing of the people of Cyprus, and everything to do with profit, exploitation and domination over Cyprus.”

“In continuation to Comrade Pambos Papageorgiou’s analysis, one may realise that the Troika’s interest is to employ what Naomi Klein has coined as ‘The Shock Doctrine’: using a disaster (an economic one, in Cyprus case) to pursue a political neo-liberal project on behalf of the ruling classes. To that we say with you: ‘Do not bow, people of Cyprus, stand up for your rights!’.”
