Social justice protesters block several streets in Tel Aviv

Two thousand people staged on Saturday night an alternative demonstration in Tel-Aviv, from Kaplan Street to Allenby Avenue as part of the social justice protest movement. The protesters blocked several streets and avenues: Kaplan, Ibn Gvirol, Dizengoff, Rothschild, Ehad A’am and chanted slogans including “The only solution to privatization is revolution,” “Workers – not slaves,” “Ministry of defense equals capital in the power,” ‘Democracy now,” “Social Justice now,” and “Capital mixed with power is an organized crime.” Among the demonstrators: MK Dov Khenin and several Communist Party of Israel and Hadash activists who carried red flags and political banners against capitalism and occupation.

Thousands of social justice marching as Saturday night’s universal draft rally was taking place, were surprised to see again a military Humner in the streets of Tel Aviv.  As they marched to Habima Square a military Hummer truck with surveillance equipment, was on the scene and the demonstrators chanted slogans against occupation and for democracy. During the march, they stopped in front of several banks and the TASE (Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange) and shouted slogans such as “We want equality, not rule of wealth,” and “We are modern slaves.” Some of the demonstrators then enacted a display resembling a “crime scene” – several activists lay on the ground, while others sketched a line around them using a chalk, as is customary in crime scenes.
