A discussion of last week’s murderous attacks on the Jerusalem Gay Pride parade and Palestinian homes in Duma grew heated in the Knesset, with left-wing MKs calling for the political right to take responsibility. Right-wing Knesset members actually boycotted a special summer-recess session at the parliament on Tuesday, August 4, initiated following the recent Jewish terror attacks. Those incidents claimed the life of a 16-year old girl, Shira Banki, marching in the Jerusalem Gay Pride parade and that of a Palestinian child in the occupied West Bank village of Duma.
MK Aida Touma-Sliman (Hadash – Joint List) said Ali Dawabsha, the 18-month old Palestinian baby who was burned alive in the firebombing attack, was “murdered at the hands of right-wing fascists who plan day and night to harm Palestinians; but the matches to ignite the blaze … were provided by the government’s policy of occupation.”
MK Dov Khenin (Hadash – Joint List) said the government’s policies and attitudes politically back the arsonists. “One who says Arabs are swarming to the voting booths in droves [as Benjamin Netanyahu did last election day] knows very well that he is intentionally depicting the Palestinians as some sort of lower breed, not quite human, who are ultimately worthy of being burned alive,” declared Khenin.
