Communist Party of Israel Condemns EU Troika’s Economic Terrorism against Greece

Voters in Greece defied pollsters’ predictions of a close call in the July 5 referendum this Sunday, 61% voting “Oxi” (No) to the latest EU troika demands for additional broad and deep austerity measures in return for an additional bank bailout. Thousands of Greeks gathered in the streets of Athens and in cities, towns, and villages throughout the country on Sunday night, and into the early hours of Monday morning, to celebrate the results.

The Communist Party of Israel (CPI) unequivocally condemns the brutal pressures which have, are, and will continue to be imposed by the European Union, in particular under the leadership of the German government, on Greece and on the Greek people to force them to submit to the vicious neo-liberal capitalist program of the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission, and the European Central Bank.

The CPI expresses its full solidarity with the struggle of the masses in Greece for their liberation from the chains imposed on them by the chief agents of capitalist system. These programs only make the rich richer and the poor poorer, while at the same time making the rich nations richer and the poor states poorer. The CPI calls upon all progressive forces in Greece to join forces in the ongoing fight against the exploitative economic policy of the Troika and to move forward towards a real liberation from the fetters of rampant capitalism.
