MK Barakeh slams basketball player’s Facebook racism slur

Hadash Chairman and Knesset member Muhammad Barakeh on Sunday criticized racism in Israel after racial slurs were reported on the Facebook page of an Israeli basketball player on Friday.

“There is nothing like celebrating Passover with Matzah [unleavened bread] seasoned with the blood of Christian and Muslim children,” a post on the Facebook page of basketball player Ido Kozikaro read. Several Facebook followers of the page “liked” the post, while others left comments, which included; “I want to be invited to this feast.”

“Nazis should be in jail, but if he was not behind the statement then Israeli security services must apply the law, investigate the case and bring the perpetrators to court,” Knesset member Barakeh told Ma’an news agency. “The barriers which block racism in Israel have collapsed, and that is an inevitable outcome when racists rule Israel,” Baraka said. Hadash chairman called on Israeli police to tackle fascist activities, as incidences like this can escalate into physical violence.
