MK Ayman Odeh: Shoah Unparalleled in History; Deniers are Part of a Mechanism of Evil

Joint List Chairman MK Ayman Odeh (Hadash) called Thursday, April 16, on Arab citizens in Israel to partake in a moment of silence on Holocaust Remembrance Day. In an interview conducted on the day of the national memorial, MK Odeh insisted that the entire country stand in silence during the one minute siren heard throughout Israel. “As chairman of the Joint List, I call on the entire population — especially the Arab population — to stand at attention during the siren,” Odeh said while speaking on Channel 10.

Odeh insisted that Arabs had a responsibility to both respect and understand the Nazi genocide, responsible for the death of six million Jews. “The Holocaust is an event without parallel. Anyone who denies any part of it… is directly connected to a mechanism of evil,” he stated.

The chairman was on a program discussing the Arab perspective of the Holocaust and insisted it was necessary for Arabs to learn about atrocities committed by the Nazis against the Jews, the peoples of Europe, and against the population of the former Soviet Union. Odeh followed his remark with the assertion that Jews in Israel should similarly learn about Arab history and the Nakba. In Israel, Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked annually by the sounding of a one minute long siren that is heard throughout the country. It is customary to stand in place during the siren and reflect on those who perished.
