Report: Labor party Histadrut head suspected of fraud and bribery

The police are investigating a Labor member party member, Chairman Ofer Eini of the Histadrut Labor Federation, on suspicion of fraud and bribery totaling hundreds of thousands of shekels, according to the News First Class website. Among other things, Eini is suspected of illegally arranging benefits and an executive appointment for his girlfriend and favors for senior Histadrut members in exchange for help or silence in benefits he arranged for himself and other close friends at the expense of federation members.

The police are also looking at deals made by a Histradrut company. So far, ten people have been summoned for questioning; most if not all senior members of the Histadrut. Some were questioned for hours and shown incriminating materials. At the end of their interrogation, they were sworn to secrecy.

An Eini aide said, “This is not the first time that political elements are trying to use the police to promote their candidates as if the police are a tool in their campaigns. We are unaware of any investigation, or of persons questioned, but in any event, we will fully cooperate with the law enforcement authorities.”
