The activists, among them Hadash and communists militants carrying red flags, protested against the allocation of funds for the renovation of the national theatre building, which they claimed came at the expense of those in need of housing. “We don’t want luxury, we want our city back,” chanted some hundreds protesters, who blocked the roads leading to the theatre. “On the one hand we are protesting against a lack in public housing and on the other hand we see in front of our eyes the opening of Habima, with nicely dressed people enjoying refreshments,” one of the protesters told journalists.
