The United States carried out a strike that killed Iranian Major-General Qassem Soleimani, head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, the Pentagon announced on Thursday, January 2. In Israel, Zionist lawmakers from across the political spectrum united Friday in praising the US strike that killed Soleimani — with the exception of Hadash and the Communist Party of Israel (CPI), which denounced the operation.
CPI leading member MK Ofer Cassif (Hadash – Joint List) attacked the move: “Whoever opens champagnes today doesn’t understand that killing Soleimani can lead to an attack on Israel,” he tweeted. “If American thuggery costs Israeli lives it will be on Trump’s hands and his friend, the fugitive criminal Netanyahu,” he wrote. Fellow Joint List MK Aida Touma-Sliman (Hadash) similarly commented that “the Trump administration is endangering the lives of all people in the Middle East — Iranians, Israelis and everyone in between. No to war!”
