AKEL (The Progressive Party of Working People) Central Committee sent from Nicosia, Cyprus, a solidarity message to the Communist Party of Israel to “its struggles for the foundation of a Palestinian state”:

“AKEL expresses its full solidarity with the Communist Party of Israel and all the pro-peace forces in Israel to their struggle against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and the demand for the foundation of a Palestinian state within the borders of 1967.

“The recent massive demonstrations organized from the several progressive forces in Israel, Jewish and Arab, have indicated once more that an important part of the Israelis are demanding peace and prosperity in the region based on principles with respect to the human rights and the international law.

 “With this occasion we reaffirm our support and solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle to regain their legitimate and inalienable national rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital, as well as the right of return for all Palestinian refugees in accordance with U.N. Resolution 194.

 “We also condemn the continuous violence and suppression of the state of Israel against the Palestinian people and the pro-peace forces in Israel. The recent killing of 23 activists and inuring of other 350 who were demonstrating in the Golan Heights borders, indicates once more the cruel face of the Israeli policies”.
