Dear Comrades

 

It is a pleasure to participate in this important meeting of communist parties and unions from around the world as a representative of the Israeli Communist Party, the party internationalist Jewish – Arab, that our participation in this meeting comes from the strategic vision of the importance of sharing ideas and attitudes and create a unified strategy for our party to stand in the forefront of the struggle against capitalism and class oppression and for social justice and socialism and peace.

Palestinian-Arabs in Israel to strike against wave of racism

The Higher Arab Monitoring Committee in Israel announced yesterday (Wednesday, September 2) that it will hold a general strike next month (Thursday, October 1) in protest of the racist government’s policies.

 

In the meeting, held in Nazareth, it was decided that the strike will take place on the same day that the events of October 2000, which left 13 Palestinian-Arabs (Israeli citizens) dead, are commemorated.

The fall 2003 municipal election campaign in Tel Aviv was a sleepy one, with just 30 percent of eligible voters bothering to go to the polls. The mayor, Ron Huldai (Labour Party), easily won a second term in office. This summer seemed like it would be a repeat of the 2003 scenario – but then the communist Member of the Knesset Dov Khenin (Hadash- Democratic Peace and Equality Front) announced his candidacy for the mayoralty as the representative of the Ir Lekulanu (City for All) movement, won the support of about a dozen Israeli actors, and breathed life into the race.
