May 24: Web Meeting of British, Palestinian and Israeli Communists

The Communist Party of Britain (CPB) will hold a public solidarity meeting next week with leading Palestinian and Israeli communist activists. Under the slogan “Palestine – For an independent state within the recognized borders as they stood on 4 June 1967,” the web meeting will take place on Monday, May 24 beginning at 19:00 (7:00 pm) London time.

Aqel Taqas, International Secretary of the Palestinian People’s Party and Hadash MK Ofer Cassif (Joint List) a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Israel will participate in the meeting to be chaired by Liz Payne of the CPB.

The CPB has strongly condemns what it has called the “ethnic cleansing” of East Jerusalem and Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. “The murderous assault of the Netanyahu regime and what can only be described as the Israeli Offence Force has exposed – yet again – the brutal character of the Israeli state’s illegal occupation and confiscation of Palestinian lands,” CPB General Secretary Robert Griffiths told the party’s executive committee last week.

Britain’s Communists also condemned the refusal of the US, British and European Union governments to take any meaningful action against the Israel’s “crimes against humanity.”

“This only underlines the need to renew and escalate the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign in order to force Israel to respect United Nations resolutions and international law,” Griffiths declared, welcoming the mass protests across Britain and around the world in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
