Communist MK Aida Touma-Sliman (Hadash-Joint List) warned on Tuesday, August 15, that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is perfectly capable of starting a war in an attempt to escape his legal troubles. Touma-Sliman noted that, in the past, the far-right government had embarked on aggressive wars against the Palestinian people and other nations in the region.
She further claimed that Netanyahu wants to gain the authority to declare war in order to escape the crises he faces, in reference to a report this week that Netanyahu is promoting an amendment which would allow him to declare war without the need for prior approval from his government.
Touma-Sliman called Netanyahu a “racist” and claimed that whenever he has encountered an internal crisis, he has tried to save himself by aggressively attacking external elements to draw attention away from his own distress and to instill in Israelis a feeling that they were in danger and therefore must unite around him.
The Communist MK has in the past accused Netanyahu of deliberately inciting against Joint List MKs and the Arab-Palestinian minority in Israel, a trend which has increased since the last general election in March 2015.
