Hadash and two Arab partiers, Ta’al and Balad, announced on Wednesday (August 19) that they have agreed to run on a joint slate in the upcoming Knesset election, resurrecting the Joint List slate. Hadash chairman Yousef Jabareen will head the list, followed by Ta’al chief Ahmad Tibi and Balad chair Sami Abou Shahadeh, according to a Hadash spokesman. The three parties had been in talks for weeks, but Tibi had been holding out, as he sought better terms for himself and a second lawmaker from his party. Ta’al is the least popular of the three parties.

The fourth spot on the list will go to Hadash’s Jafar Farah,the fifth will be Balad’s Bakhar Awawdeh and Hadash MK Ofer Cassif will take the sixth place on the slate. Youssef Atawneh (Hadash) is the sixth candidate and after him: Maha Karakabi (Balad), Nahaya Washahi (Hadash), Hassan Nasasra (Balad)
and Iyas Nattour (Hadash).

The three parties last ran together in 2021, along with the Islamist Ra’am party headed by Mansour Abbas. But Ra’am decided to break off months before the election and run independently. Ra’am won four seats and joined the Naftali Bennett-Yair Lapid coalition.

“In the coming weeks,” Jabareen wrote in a post to X/Twitter on Wednesday evening, “we will work with all our strength to increase voter turnout among the entire public and ensure that the Netanyahu, Ben Gvir, Smotrich government does not return to power.” “This is not only our mission, but also the mission of everyone who seeks to change the difficult reality in which we live.” According to a Maariv poll published last Friday the Joint List would win eight seats.
