Several thousand protesters gathered Saturday evening, April 11, at Habima Square in Tel Aviv at a protest against the war and the far-right government, marking the seven consecutive weeks of demonstrations since the start of the joint Israeli-U.S. imperialist war against Iran, as demonstrations took place across the country, including Be’er Sheva, Jerusalem and Haifa.

There were other, smaller protests at other locations, among them Kfar Saba, Kafr Yassif, Deir al-Asad, Kiryat Ono, Modi’in, Petah Tikva, Ma’on Junction, Tzemach, Zikhron Ya’akov, Sha’ar HaNegev, Kfar Yehoshua Bridge, Ne’urim Bridge, Beit Hashita, Halukim Junction, Gomeh Junction and Karkur Junction

In Tel-Aviv thousands gathered, chanting, “Occupying southern Lebanon is a recipe for disaster,” “We won’t have security here until we make peace,” “Peace yes, occupation no,” and “We will not die, nor will we kill, in the service of the United States.”  Along the square’s western edge, about 200 people stand in silence as they hoist candles and pictures of children killed by Israel in Gaza, Lebanon, the occupied West Bank and Iran.

Across the square, speaking from atop a platform, Hadash MK Ayman Odeh, assails Zionist opposition parties for failing to present an alternative to the war and the far-right government. “I believe that you don’t need Jewish-Arab partnership for war, but you need Jewish-Arab partnership for peace,” he says. “We have a problem, which is that we have a weak opposition that doesn’t offer an alternative to the government. The unique alternative to this government is peace.”

According to Odeh, “We are living in a reality where perpetual war and destruction have become the norm, and it fills me with hope to see that there are still so many people who believe in an alternative. We must stop the wars and end the occupation.” During the speech, protesters cheer and chant, in Hebrew and Arabic, “Peace, freedom, social justice,”

The fascist provocateur Mordechai David led dozens of activists attempting to enter the square but were blocked by the protest organizers. Border police escorted him from the square, but he was able to gain access from another point.

Hundreds also gathered for an anti-government rally in Jerusalem’s Paris Square. Three people were arrested for allegedly crossing a police line.  Hundreds also protested in two sites in Haifa at Wadi Nisnas and Horev Square. The police also arrested four participants in a protest vigil in Umm al-Fahm last night, held to oppose the death penalty law for Palestinians. During the protest, organized by the city’s Popular Committee, dozens of residents and activists waved signs calling for the law repel. They argued that the legislation contradicts human values, particularly considering policies of suppression and starvation reported against Palestinian prisoners in jails.
