Thousands of protesters rallied across Israel on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28, in demonstrations against the far-right government and calling for an end to the war, with gatherings held in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, Beer Sheva and other 27 locations among them Kufr Yasif, Kibbutz Eilon and Gomeh Junction near the Lebanese Border, Tamra, Nes Ziona, Maon Junction near the border with occupied Gaza Strip, Umm el-Fahm, Kfar Sava, Karkur, Ashkelon and Taybe. Demonstrations titled “Say no to the eternal war of the Kahanist government,” and police have arrested 22 protesters in Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa.
Despite his parliamentary immunity, Border Police were also seen putting their hands in Tel-Aviv on Hadash MKs Ayman Odeh and Ofer Cassif, who were active in the anti-war protests since it began last month, and Border Police officers were seen violently dispersing protesters. Law enforcement said attendees broke the law by “violating the Home Front Command’s regulations barring outdoor public gatherings of over 50 people.”

About fifteen minutes after the protest began at Habima Square in Tel Aviv, police violently dispersed around 1,000 demonstrators protesting the war in Iran. Protesters responded with chants of “the police are criminals” and confiscated signs and sound equipment and arrested demonstrators. However, despite police repression, MKs Odeh and Cassif held an impromptu rally against the war, the far-right government and settler terrorism in the occupied West Bank.
In Jerusalem, hundreds gathered at Paris Square under the banners “For all of our lives,” “Against forever war and occupation.” Organizers said the demonstrations were directed against a “forever war” and far-right government criminal actions during the US-Israeli war.
Following the demonstration, MK Odeh derided the police as “fascists in the service of the government” who were afraid of “the heroic Jewish and Arab citizens who went out, despite everything, to make their voice heard.” “We are fighting for the sake of all of our lives, and primarily, for the future of our children,” he wrote. “Enough of war, yes to peace.”
The wave of protests on Friday and Saturday was the largest since the outbreak of war with Iran in late February. Though such protests have been taking place weekly since the outset of the war, they previously recorded hundreds of dedicated left-wing activists, many affiliated with pro-peace organizations, like the Peace Partnership coalition, Hadash and the Communist Party of Israel.
