The Communist Party of Israel and Hadash welcome on Thursday morning, October 9, the Sharm El Sheikh ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the criminal war of annihilation waged against the Palestinian people in Gaza and at the liberation of the hostages and prisoners. This war comes to an end thanks to the heroic steadfastness of the Palestinian People in Gaza, frustrating the annihilation and deportation plans by the Israeli government; together with the support of the international solidarity movement which coursed through the world, demanding justice and independence for the Palestinian people.

We congratulate all those who refused to serve in the Occupation forces and all those within the peace camp in Israel who stood courageously against this criminal war, chief among them the Jewish and Arab members of the “Peace Partnership”. We emphasize that a total end to the war requires the full compliance of the Netanyahu administration with the ceasefire agreement, together with a full withdrawal of troops from the Gaza strip, as well as the free entry of all necessary humanitarian aid to abet the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Likewise, it is necessary to put an end the continued assaults perpetuated by the settlers and occupation forces against the Palestinian people in the occupied west bank. This war proves unequivocally that the conflict will continue indefinitely as long as the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and independence in the form of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4th borders alongside Israel with its capital fixed to East Jerusalem, remains unfulfilled.
