Israel Strikes Hamas Leaders in Doha; MK Cassif: Attack Only Led to the Continuation of the Genocide

Israel attempted to assassinate Hamas leaders on Tuesday, September 9, while they were meeting in Doha, Qatar’s capital. The attack was carried out by Israel Air Force fighter jets and included 10 strikes on the target.

According to Channel 12 reports, Israel informed the US of its intention to strike Hamas leaders in Qatar when the jets were already in the air. Quoting several US officials, the report says that the US, which has a large military base in Qatar, identified Israeli jets heading toward the east and demanded an explanation from Israel. Israel informed the US that it was carrying out an attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar and the information was sent to US President Donald Trump.

Politicians across the Zionist political spectrum celebrate the Israeli airstrike against Hamas leaders in Qatar. Opposition Leader MK Yair Lapid releases a statement congratulating “the Air Force, IDF, Shin Bet and all security forces for an extraordinary operation to thwart our enemy.” Blue and White-National Unity chairman MK Benny Gantz commends “the political echelon” for its decision to launch the strike, stating that Israel “must pursue Hamas terrorists and their leaders everywhere and at all times.”

Racist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich tweets that “terrorists do not have and will not have immunity from the long arm of Israel anywhere in the world,”

he writes, thanking God. “Thus, shall all thy enemies perish, O Lord. Israel’s long hand will not be shortened in the face of any enemy, whoever it may be,” posts Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, congratulating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his cabinet and Israel’s security forces “for a precise and lethal operation.” In addition, Labor MK Gilad Kariv tweets, “The leaders of Hamas are marked for death. Every one of them.”

However, Hadash MK Ofer Cassif tweets, “The Israeli ‘strike’ on Doha is a strike on the life and liberty of the hostages and people of Gaza The bombing of Doha, carried out in coordination between Israel and the United States, is a blatant act of aggression that will only lead to the continuation of the genocide in Gaza, the deliberate killing of the remaining hostages, and perhaps even a declaration of war on Qatar. The Israeli public must wake up: the intensification of the genocide—beyond being a crime against humanity—will not bring security or freedom for the hostages. Rather, it will only bring more loss and suffering for us all. The international community must urgently intervene to put an end to the destruction and prevent the occupation of Gaza city. Save the Palestinian and Israeli peoples from the genocidal government!”

The forum representing the families of the hostages for the release of hostages held in Gaza expressed “deep concern” following the Israeli attack on Hamas’s leadership in Qatar, which has been mediating ceasefire talks. “The families of the hostages are following the developments in Doha with deep concern and heavy anxiety. A grave fear now hangs over the price that the hostages may pay,” a statement from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum says, adding that: “The chance of bringing them back now faces greater uncertainty than ever before.”

Einav Zangauker, whose son Matan is held by Hamas in Gaza, said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have killed her son by striking Hamas officials in Qatar. “I am trembling with fear,” Zangauker said in a post on X. “It could be that at this very moment, the prime minister has actually assassinated my Matan, sealed his fate,” she said. “Whoever decides to deliberately endanger my Matan’s life is murdering him. Why does he insist on blowing every chance at a deal? This is my child’s life!” She continued, “My Matan’s life is hanging in balance! Again, and again and again, the prime minister sabotages the deal.” Zangauker urged to “end this war already and bring everyone back in a comprehensive agreement!”
