Police brutally arrested at least four anti-government and anti-war protesters on Tel Aviv’s Begin Road, on Thursday, June 26, according to a lawyer group offering pro-bono services to activists detained at demonstrations. Protesters were detained for blocking traffic on Namir Road, a major route that feeds into Begin Road.

Thousands of protesters marched to the the Israeli army headquarters on Begin Road, after demonstrating at Rabin Square. The rally and march were led by soldiers’ mothers who are demanding an end to the war in Gaza. Earlier, the protesters gathered Rabin Square answering a call from hostage families and anti-governmental organizations demanding an end of the war and a full deal to bring all the captives home.

The women’s protest said that the public no longer believes that the war in Gaza is still being waged because of security needs. “When the campaign against Iran ends within 12 days, when even senior officials in the coalition are questioning the purpose of the ongoing war in Gaza and the failure to bring back the hostages, when more and more soldiers are falling – it is clear to the Israeli public that the government is sacrificing the hostages to survive a few more months in power and to fulfill messianic fantasies,” the organization said.

On Thursday night all hostage families and anti-governmental organizations announced a resumption of protests starting Saturday evening. On Sunday evening a mass demonstration will be held in Haifa in protest the impeachment of Hadash MK Ayman Odeh and against war and occupation. On Monday morning, another protest will be held in front of the Knesset in Jerusalem during the impeachment hearing for MK Odeh.
