Demonstrations in Jaffa and Haifa for the Recognition of the State of Palestine

The Hadash branches in Tel Aviv and Jaffa invite the public to join the vigil demanding worldwide recognition of the State of Palestine to be held next Friday, May 23, 14:00 p.m. at 1 Toulouse Street in Jaffa, at the residence of the French Ambassador to Israel. “We will urge the French President Macron to keep his word and immediately recognize the State of Palestine, as part of a global effort to end the brutal and murderous war, negotiate a deal for the release of all hostages and prisoners, and initiate a process for a comprehensive and sustainable peace in the entire region.”

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said Tuesday, May 20 on France Inter that France backs a review of the European Union’s association agreement as part of the further action being considered by the U.K., France and Canada over Israel’s criminal war in Gaza.

On Monday, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s handling of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and calling to immediately halt military action in the enclave and allow in more aid, threatening “further concrete actions in response” if the far-right government refuses.  They stressed that “permanent forced displacement is a breach of international humanitarian law.”

The UK, France and Canada on Monday rejected the prospect of “permanent forced displacement” of Gazan civilians, and rebuked members of the Israeli government for using “abhorrent language… threatening that, in their despair at the destruction of Gaza, civilians will start to relocate.” The statement was also signed by the foreign ministers of Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.”

In addition, on Friday, May 31, will be held another joint Jewish-Arab protest in Haifa We in Haifa under the slogan: “Enough of the war – Yes to peace! Palestinian State now!”  

According to the Hadash communique, “In 2025, after 77 years of Nakba and 58 years of occupation, we all see to what extreme levels of fascism, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing Israeli society is descending due to the denial of Palestinian freedom and independence. We will march together and call on the whole world to recognize the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, demand a true peace process that guarantees a future for both Palestinians and Israelis, and clearly say: Stop the war in Gaza and the occupied West Bank immediately! Say yes to a deal that brings everyone home – Palestinians and Israelis alike and stop the rising tide of fascism in Israel.”
