Noon Today: Mass Protest in Qalansawe vs. Home Demolitions

The regional steering committee of the Communist Party of Israel (CPI) for the area of the Southern Triangle has called for every effort to ensure the success of a mass protest to be held in Qalansawe today, Friday, January 13, starting at 12:30, following the the demolition of 11 homes on Tuesday of this week, just the latest in a series of attacks being waged by the Israeli authorities against the Palestinian-Arab citizens of the state.

Today is the fourth consecutive day of protests since the demolitions, and have included a general strike throughout the entire Arab sector held on Wednesday. The call for the general strike was made by the Follow-up Committee of the Arabs in Israel, and included all schools, businesses and public places throughout the Arab sector of the country. Wednesday afternoon a demonstration was held at the entrance to Qalansuwa in solidarity with the families whose homes were destroyed. On the same day mass protests were also held in the cities of Nazareth and Sachnin, while on the campus of Tel-Aviv University, about 150 students and lecturers participated in a protest rally attended by two MKs belonging to the Hadash faction of the Joint, Aida Touma-Suleiman and Abdullah Abu Marouf, leaders of the CPI.
