Nakba Day celebrated at Tel Aviv University Hundreds of students assembled at Tel Aviv University (TAU) on Monday to commemorate the Nakba ("catastrophe" in Arabic). The day marked the 65th anniversary of the State of Israel’s establishment in 1948, which coincided with the destruction of over 500 Palestinian villages and the creation of an estimated 750,000 refugees. Nakba commemorations were held this week throughout Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories and abroad. Occupation objector Natan Blanc was sentenced to a tenth prison term Natan Blanc, an occupation objector has been jailed by an Israeli military court for the tenth time in six months for refusing to enlist for compulsory military service. According to "Yesh Gvul", ten consecutive prison sentences for being a conscientious objector is thought to be a record in Israel.     Blanc was sent on Sunday to a military prison for 28 days, the longest sentence the 19-year-old has received since he was called up last November. More detainees held longer without seeing judge Israel's Shin Bet security service made in 2012, more use of a temporary order extending the time security suspects may be detained before being brought before a judge. According to a recent Shin Bet report submitted to Knesset, last year detention hearings were delayed for 10 detainees in all. Of these, two were held for 72 hours before an initial judicial review and eight saw a judge 48 hours after their arrest.
