Joint List Smurf-esque Ad Portrays Liberman and Bennett as Villains

A new Joint List ad featured smurf-like characters telling the Arab public to stop being apathetic and vote to bring down extreme-right Bayit Yehudi’s Naftali Bennett and Israel Beytenu’s Avigdor Liberman.

The clip, which is in Arabic with Hebrew subtitles, starts in a village filled with colorful houses with polka-dot roofs, in which a boy and a girl with the same floppy white hats as smurfs wear knock on a door and say it’s important to vote for The Joint List on Election Day. “Why should I vote? I hate politics. I hate voting. I hate MKs,” their grumpy friend, whose name translates to “irritable,” responded.

“Enter The Joint List’s websites and read about our activities,” the Brainy Smurf character responded. “Of course they aren’t on TV.” The duo also convinced a character named Apathetic, who planned on napping and having a picnic with his family on Election Day, which is a day off from work, to vote. “If you don’t vote, Bennett and Liberman will benefit,” faux-Smurfette said.

Bennett and Liberman, who looked a lot like Smurfs villain Gargamel, looked down from a balcony. “What am I going to do with these Arabs? We must eliminate them,” the cartoon Liberman said. “I have killed a lot of Arabs in my life, but it looks like this time they’ll get rid of you,” the Bennett character, wearing a kippah and a gun on his back, said. The clip ends with the smurf-Arabs cheering, as they watched a cartoon version of Channel 2 News anchor Yonit Levin announcing that the Joint List got 15 seats and Liberman is out of the Knesset. “We have an opportunity to be the third-strongest in the Knesset,” an announcer said.
