Hadash denounces approval of “Admissions Committee Law”

Member of Knesset Muhammad Barakeh, chairman of the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash), strongly denounced Israel’s Supreme Court ruling, in which it upheld the “Admissions Committee law”, allowing rural towns in the Negev and Galilee to reject residency to Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and other marginalized groups.

In a press release, MK Dov Khenin (Hadash) said the High Court’s ruling is part of Israel’s efforts to marginalize the Arabs, and falls under direct racism against them, and other minorities. “This ruling legalizes racism against the Arabs,” he said, “The Judges legalized preventing the Arabs from inhabiting lands where Israeli cities and communities have been built on lands confiscated from the Arabs themselves.” Khenin further said this ruling grants a Green Light for deepening discrimination, and social injustice, against the Arabs in the country, and legalizes racist practices, especially amidst the dangerously increasing levels of hatred and racism to Arabs during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. The “Admissions Committees Law” allows Israeli towns to reject residency, in Negev and Galilee towns, to all Arabs and other marginalized communities in the country, with the claimed “justification” that those minorities are “undesired,” or “unfit” to live in “Jewish Communities.”
