The three Palestinian Arabic dailies and Communist Arabic Al Ittihad newspaper published in Israel highlighted on their front pages on Saturday and Sunday the Israeli’s army killing on Friday, May 10, of a Palestinian during the March of Return protests along the Gaza border and the wounding of dozens of others.

The newspapers reported that Abdallah Jumaa, 24, from Rafah was shot dead and 32 others were wounded by live fire, including four minors and a a paramedic. The forces fired live bullets and rubber-coated steel rounds at the protesters who gathered at a number of encampments along the border for the weekly protests.

The newspapers also reported on the Friday anti-settlement protests in the occupied West Bank and, in particular, that in Kufr Qaddoum in the north where injuries were reported during the Israeli army crackdown against protesters.

Also covered was the United Nations Security Council condemnation of Israel’s settlement policy in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The Jerusalem daily Al-Quds wrote that 14 out of the 15 Security Council members condemned settlements as illegal and an obstruction to peace in the Middle East, while calling on Israel to halt all such activities that counter international law. The US was the only country in the UNSC session that voiced support for Israel’s illegal activity. The paper quoted US envoy Jason Greenblatt attacking the UN for its stand against the illegal settlements, which he insisted do not obstruct peace. Al Ittihad quoted Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki telling the Security Council members that the US’s so-called “Deal of the Century” is a plan for capitulation and does not aim to reach a just and equitable peace agreement.
