Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked and praised US President Donald Trump Tuesday night, May 8: “Israel fully supports President Trump’s bold decision today to reject the disastrous nuclear deal with the terrorist regime in Tehran,” Netanyahu said in English just minutes after Trump’s dramatic announcement in the White House.
So-called “Opposition Leader” MK Isaac Herzog (who, at the time the deal was signed was the head of the Zionist Union bloc) stated, “as an Israeli patriot, this deal is dangerous” and it represented “a bad agreement that endangers our security interests.” He announced there was “no daylight” between himself and Netanyahu on the question of the deal.
However, Hadash MKs condemned both Trump’s and Netanyahu’s positions. Leading Communist Party of Israel activist, Hadash MK Dov Khenin (Joint List) said, “The international agreement on the nuclear issue was the right move, and it must continue instead of leading to a terrible regional war that no one will win.” According to Khenin, Trump and Netanyahu are acting as they do with regard to Iran because each of them fears the criminal probes being conducted against them.
Joint List Chairman, MK Ayman Odeh called the American retreat from the deal “a bad decision that endangers the citizens of Israel and the entire world. There is no reason to celebrate.” Joint List MK Aida Touma-Sliman (Hadash) called Trump a warmonger and said his decision is “a disaster that endangers the entire world.”
