Soldiers Forcefully Suppress Joint Protest against New OPT Outposts

The outposts remain in place.

Dozens of Palestinian and Israeli activists gathered in the Jordan Valley in order to protest the establishment of new illegal outposts in the area. The demonstrators, from the Israeli-Palestinian activist group Ta’ayush, were forcefully dispersed by Israeli soldiers, who fired tear gas at them. Subsequently, on Friday, January 6, one Ta’ayush activist from Jerusalem was arrested by Israeli police and occupation army forces nearby an illegal outpost.

Ahmad Said, the deputy governor of Tubas, told the Palestinian news agency Ma’an that tens of protesters had set up a tent on Thursday in an area of the northern Jordan Valley to protest Israel’s expanding illegal settlements. However, Israeli forces suppressed the protest. Said added that Israeli forces had also assaulted a crew of Palestinian journalists, causing injuries among them. He did not specify what kinds of injuries were sustained during the incident.
